|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 10:00, repeating until Sun, 20 Jun 2021

Various locations. For the gardening enthusiasts or those that just appreciate a beautiful garden, why not visit one of the region’s open gardens. View some amazing tropical gardens and speak with the local garden owners.

Jenny Habermann
70 May Street, Corner of May and Furneaux Streets
Open 16th June, 10 am – 4 pm

This garden is an example of what can be done to return a cleared house block to a fully vegetated garden, displaying a combination of local native bush and exotic plants.  The owner has “before” photos and will be happy to guide you through her “now” garden’s meandering paths, explaining her choice of plants as you stroll.

Flint Berg
2/51 Hope Street
Mobile 0475 786 539
Please call to arrange a suitable time to visit.

Hard to believe this garden was a bleak garden-less block of land just 4 years ago.  It is a riot of colour with flowers of all descriptions, some from Flint’s native PNG area, together with shrubs, vines and many interesting vegetables and edible plants.  This garden can only be described as exuberant and Flint will provide a wonderful tour.

Sayah and Peter Scott
9 John Street
Mobile 0437 878 370
Please call to arrange a suitable time to visit.

Sayah’s lovely shady garden is a discovery adventure.  There are different “rooms” and each has its own charm and interest ranging from gnarled old trees, to  productive fruit trees, herb and vegetable areas and of course beautiful colourful flowers.  A wonderful shady oasis.

Edith and Christian Wlodareczak
59 Garden Street
Mobile 0414 831 055
Please call to arrange a suitable time to visit.

Edith and Christian have only resided in Cooktown for 2 years.  During that time much hard work and loving, intelligent planning has resulted in a wonderfully structured garden which will only improve as it grows and matures.  The enthusiasm of this knowledgeable and personable couple is made even more interesting by stories of a lifetime of adventures.  It is hard to believe they are celebrating their 50th Wedding anniversary this year. This garden is a pleasure to stroll through with this charming couple.

Julie and Peter Oliver
13 Kerr Street
Mobile:  0417 459 320
Please call to arrange a suitable time to visit.

Just up the road from Edith’s & Christian’s garden is Julie’s wonderfully colourful and beautifully planned garden.  Several trees have recently been removed from this block, necessitating a partial revamping of content but much work with mulching and re-planting has resulted in stunning effects throughout.  This garden frames the house and adds a special glow to the streetscape.

Julie also cares for the RSL section in Cooktown Cemetery so if you are planning a visit to this peaceful and historic area of our town, do take the time to also visit this specially dedicated corner.
